Open-source solutions can be problematic because there’s no accountability for support and maintenance, so we ended up with Visuality Systems. They are very responsive and ahead of the curve, reacting promptly to product changes by Microsoft. They are very eager to help customers implement new versions of the SMB protocol.

We like open source very much and we use it heavily in our product. However, when customers started opening a growing number of support tickets, we understood that open source is not enough for us. So we decided to find an independent SMB library that supports our needs. SMB is complex. We never intended to implement the SMB3 protocol even if we’re able because we want to save time. We pay for jNQ, but the whole package is cheaper and saves a lot of nerves.

We needed to establish data transfer among different endpoints supporting the SMB network file sharing protocol. Visuality Systems’ YNQ was the perfect fit. It enabled the introduction of NAS value added services by our demanding telco customers. We are very satisfied with the performance of YNQ. Users don't even notice it because it works great. Every time our engineers need support from Visuality Systems they always get it very promptly.

We did not have to modify any code to use SMB3 because the stack has been added to the operating system, ensuring it would fit seamlessly within our application, which was of utmost importance to me.

We tried pretty much everything in the open-source with heavy production loads, but they were not at the level of robustness that was required and we did not get enterprise-level support. The jNQ SMB client allowed us to scan terabytes of data without flaking out and that’s something that we had just never seen before.
